The Mythology

The tallest mountain in Greece, Mount Olympus is said to have been formed after Zeus and the Olympian gods defeated the Titans in the Titan War. According to Greek mythology, Mount Olympus is where the Twelve Olympian gods Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Aphrodite, Hephaestus, Hermes and Dionysus lived and slept and held court. In their great palaces they feasted on ambrosia and nectar and were entertained by Apollo’s lyre. From atop the mountain Zeus, the leader of the gods, launched his thunderbolts and ruled over all.

“Homer says that no wind ever shakes the untroubled peace of Olympus; no rain ever falls there or snow; but the cloudless firmament stretches around it on all sides and the white glory of sunshine is diffused upon its walls.”
